Similar to a tutorial I produced a while ago, this effect uses the standard toolkit in After Effects CS3 or later to create a sinister, mysterious title sequence that would be great for horror movies, or even diving sequences.
You can download the project file for it from here.
If you’ve spent ages tweaking that huge stack of effects and plug-ins to get exactly the look you’re after, it’s a good idea to save it for future use. Here’s how you can quickly create your own animation presets in After Effects so that they can be instantly applied to future projects (saving you the hassle of having to remember exactly how you created that awesome fire effect!)
A while back, I produced an After Effects tutorial showing how to create a Laser Etched Metal effect, which has become one of my most popular tutorials to date.
If you’ve followed this particular tutorial, you’ll know that it involves a significant amount of manual keyframing, and at the time, I wasn’t aware of any method that would speed this up, and that’s been irritating me for ages.
The good news is that while I haven’t found an instant solution, I’ve at least come up with a way of automating the keyframing procedure, so if you’re ever creating a point-based effect and want it to trace the outline of some text (or any set of masks, for that matter), this tutorial should be of interest.
With Diablo III’s release (finally!) just around the corner, I thought I’d throw together a tutorial series showing you how you can create a Diablo III-style intro logo that would be ideal if you’re creating a clan video, gameplay footage or fan film. As usual, it relies entirely on the standard toolkit in After Effects (CS3 or later), so you won’t need any expensive plug-ins. That said, it’s certainly not as sophisticated as the actual Diablo III intro, which uses some pretty heavy duty effects like realistic flames, lighting, glow and particles.
The project file that goes with this tutorial can be found on this page.
The tutorial also requires some free-to-download assets that I can’t legally redistribute, but you’ll find them here:
Diablo III is available for purchase from HERE and will be released on the 15th of May. Logo and trademark remain the copyright of Blizzard Entertainment.
