After Effects Tutorial – Aero Compass

Here’s how to use the standard toolkit in After Effects to create a fairly realistic flight instrument. Easy to customise and keyframe for your own needs. You can also download the After Effects CS5 project file for it from here.

NOTE: It has already been pointed out to me that the ball compass isn’t really used in airplane instrumentation – it’s more of a boat thing. Which is why I’ve added an attitude indicator / artificial horizon to the project file.

Cheers!

Laurence Grayson, this is Koto Gray. I have been viewing your work and admiring your personal as well as professional style. I found you on Youtube, but now have viewed your site and am inspired and awed by your intelligent work (and sense of humor). I enjoy and learn easily from your tutorials, but I feel like we would probably work well together in a collaboration. I am interested in finding out what your schedule is like and whether you have time for any such things. Obviously you are a busy guy, and I suppose you are married since you wear a wedding ring, and that alone takes up a lot of your time if you are a dedicated mate, but “That can’t stop progress!” (spoken in a superhero voice) I am 45, live in the U.S., am a musician, videographer, producer, graphic artist, and thoroughly enjoy using my creative talents to entertain and inspire others. I hope that you will get in touch with me to at least find out if there is something worth investigating here. I don’t normally feel motivated to reach out like this, but then again, sometimes we don’t know why we do the things we do, right? Anyway, I am moving back to the Los Angeles area in April or May and will be setting up my studio there. I am currently involved with a project with a young lady named Kaylee who is an incredible singer/songwriter and we are working on an album and will be shooting videos. The videos are possibly the best way for us to collaborate if you are interested. Again, thanks for the tuts and the inspiration. My # is (903)908-0334 if you would like to talk and my email is koto@earationalitystudio.com. Looking forward to conversing with you, Koto~
